In the Absence of Treaty

Booktopia First Nations promotion

Summary

This is the fifth in a series of books that voice the concerns of many Aboriginal peoples of the Northern Territory living under the Intervention and Stronger Futures legislation.

In the Absence of Treaty defines how, through changes to legislation and by engaging Aboriginal peoples in decision-making without access to independent advice, control is slipping away from them.

The book explores the current inadequacy of the processes used in engaging with Aboriginal people and the way in which government has continued to blatantly ignore the recommendations of their own committees in this regard.

For anyone wanting to explore more deeply the reasons for the ongoing and growing frustration of many Aboriginal people in the NT, this book provides a concise, but incisive account from recent reports. In doing this it hints at possibly the only solution – treaties.

Tip

The book is now available as a free download from the Concerned Australians website.
