Dugong Dugong

Synopsis

Dugong Dugong follows dugong hunters as they scour the ocean for precious dugong and marine turtles.

This documentary explains the different social responsibilities involved in the killing of the dugong, and its preparation for consumption.

An important aspect of this film is that it illustrates the role and importance of traditional food to Aboriginal communities, and how the communities were and are very dependent upon the natural resources to sustain themselves.

The rituals that govern the hunting and gathering of traditional food reveal a very deep relationship with the food source itself, and each food source will have its own Dreaming stories and laws associated with it.
