Nganampa Anwernekenhe

Synopsis

Nganampa Anwernekenhe means 'ours’ in the Pitjantjatjara and Arrernte languages. Over 200 episodes of this series have been produced and the primary aim of Nganampa Anwernekenhe is the maintenance of Aboriginal languages and culture.

The primary aim of Nganampa Anwernekenhe is the maintenance of Aboriginal languages and culture. Nganampa Anwernekenhe is broadcast in Aboriginal languages, and is the only Aboriginal language program produced by and broadcast to Aboriginal people. The series showcases the diversity of life in Central Australia, and is subtitled so it is accessible to people who do not speak the Indigenous languages used in each program.

Nganampa Anwernekenhe celebrated its 20th birthday in 2007, and with between four and six 25-minute or longer films produced each year, it is the first and longest running Aboriginal television series, and believed to be the longest running series of its kind in the world.

The series has also launched the career of many Aboriginal film-makers such as Erica Glynn, Warwick Thornton, Beck Cole, Allan Collins, Mitch Torres, Danielle McLean, Rachel Perkins, and Priscilla Collins and David Tranter, to name a few.
